Two Releases for Record Store Day: Waylon Jennings And Mick Foley

Waylon Jennings and Mick Foley

Black Country Rock partners with independent record stores nationally and announces two diverse Black Friday releases from country music icon Waylon Jennings and WWE Superstar Mick Foley.

“Louisiana Man, Kentucky Woman” is a collection of three unreleased 70’s-era tracks from Waylon Jennings. Originally intended for an exclusive Navy radio release and recorded at Scotty Moore’s “Music City Records” – these tracks feature Jennings in top form being backed by The Waylors. Of undeniable interest to aficionados of country music and deep cuts, this release will be available on limited-edition white 7″ vinyl on Black Friday.

“Crazy Christmas” is a spoken-word Christmas narrative told by New York Times Best Selling author and Hardcore Wrestling Legend Mick Foley, written by 10-year-old son Hugh Foley, with music and sound effects composed by Shooter Jennings.

“Narrating ‘Crazy Christmas’, the story my youngest son wrote as a gift for Santa Claus, was one of the joys of my life.” Foley said. “We handed our special holiday project off to Shooter Jennings, who took it on a wild and charming ride. I hope this collaboration with Shooter brings listeners the same sense of joy it has brought to me.”

“Crazy Christmas” will be available on limited-edition white 7″ vinyl on Black Friday, as well as available on iTunes beginning December 9, 2014.

Black Country Rock is multi-format record label and a proud supporter of independent music, brick and mortar stores, tangible goods, and advanced technology. To find a record store near you that will be carrying these releases please visit RecordStoreDay.com

The dual single package offers the first taste of this young new band. Produced by Shooter Jennings, Symbols & Snares shows off a diverse and inventive young roots band on their way out of obscurity and into the minds and hearts of music-lovers everywhere.

“The best thing about Katy (Cole) and her voice and songs is that, one minute it reminds me of something you would get from Florence & the Machine and the next minute it might be a beautiful country ballad. Then something reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails will pop up on the record. It’s so unpredictable, which is the way I like my music. I was really glad they asked me to be a part of this project and I’m very proud of the record we’ve been making this year.”

Shooter’s tribute EP to the late great George Jones “Don’t Wait Up (for George)” is available NOW in the BCR official store.  Select the format above and click the album cover to order your copy now.  It’s available on CD and beautiful 10″ white vinyl directly from BCR Los Angeles.

Rolling Stone recently reviewed the album, giving it 3.5/4 stars:

“Whether country music tributes succeed or fail, they almost always err on the side of caution – keeping it trad even when saluting artists who mixed it up. Let’s cheer Shooter Jennings, then, for an EP dedicated to the late great George Jones that surprises with synthesized twinkles and bass lines nicked from Giorgio Moroder – the Italian disco wizard Jennings has said he discovered while listening to last year’s Daft Punk album. A Moroder-themed counterpart is supposed to be coming in January, but in the meantime, don’t sleep on the Jennings original “Living in a Minor Key”: Its arrangement is nothing fancy, but its songwriting holds up against the classic covers that follow.” – Nick Murray, Rolling Stone

“Don’t Wait Up (for George)” Track Listing Revealed in New Press Release!

Shooter Jennings 2014

(July 9, 2014 – Nashville, TN) — Shooter Jennings proudly announces his forthcoming EP from his label BCR Los Angeles/Thirty Tigers: Don’t Wait Up (for George), a tribute to the late great George Jones releasing August 5th. The single “Don’t Wait Up (I’m Playin’ Possum)” is available now.

Moved by his friendship with Jones, Shooter decided to put out a heartfelt, yet experimental tribute in his honor. “When people ask me about who I remember hanging around as a kid, I always say that I remember Tony Joe White and George Jones being the most frequent and consistent around the house. Very few people can look at a child and sees the full grown human inside them and make them feel important. George was always this way with me, making me feel like he took me seriously, no matter what age I was.” says Jennings.

The friendship of George Jones – one that started early in Jennings’ childhood – sparked the creation of this 5-track, heavy-hearted tribute record.  “Very few people can look at a child and see the full grown human inside them and make them feel important. George was always this way with me, making me feel like he took me seriously, no matter what age I was.” Jennings says. This record serves as evidence of their serious, important bond as the title track, “Don’t Wait Up” was even initially written by Jennings for Jones’ next record, only to be unfortunately preceded by Jones’ passing.

“Honestly, I needed an excuse to write something that was very raw.  And I couldn’t do it for myself.“ Jennings admits of the tribute.

“Don’t Wait Up (I’m Playin’ Possum)” as well as the second track “Living In A Minor Key” are original Shooter Jennings tunes. Don’t Wait Up (for George), the complete EP will be available worldwide August 5th on CD, 10” white vinyl, and digital formats. The EP will also be available on Black Country Rock’s experimental digital distribution hub The BCR Bazaar, and each copy of vinyl will include an invite code for the Bazaar. Later this year, Shooter will be releasing a companion project, Countach (for Giorgio), a tribute to production pioneer Giorgio Moroder.

BCR Super Sunday on July 6th

ca

Sometimes here at BCR Media the stress of ruling so hard in the music industry begins to take it’s toll. One way we like to relieve our stress is by shooting a bunch of fake guns at each other in our favorite online FPS, Combat Arms. We know that you have to unwind, too, which is why we are inviting all of you to join us in a marathon battle that is sure to be remembered until the end of time.

In all seriousness, Combat Arms is a free FPS that is available exclusively to the PC. On July 6th the President of BCR himself, Shooter Jennings, alongside all of the other BCR staff will host a session of gaming that will begin at 10 am and end at midnight (est). Feel free to join us at any time during those hours. If a game is already in progress you can join in unless the room is full.

Click here to download Combat Arms by Nexon

Once you’ve signed up and are logged into the game you will find the BCR game room on Free For All Server in Channel 1. The room name will be “bcrrules” and the password will be “ronj”. Here’s the most important part. If you’re able to beat anybody from BCR Media on Super Sunday you will be rewarded with free BCR vinyl and CDs as well as invite codes to the BCR Bazaar.
